Results from Winter Series Race 5, 7th October 2018

We dodged the rain, which was on and off later. A bit of light wind made for fairly good conditions, possibly slightly faster than last week. The “11.35km mob” had light cross winds at Tacoma, unlike last week, when there was wind assisting once returning from the bottom turn.
It was a close finish in the 7.58km section, with John Wood just holding out James Sealy.
An improved performance saw Cameron Mehmet lead the combined 11.35km and 15km fields home, from the consistent, and hard working Ray Weekes – both covering 11.35km.
Leading the 15km contenders home, was Marg and Rob Cook, in a similar time time to 12 months ago. Four seconds behind, was Anne Moore, with hubby Owen Walton “press ganged” into service at short notice, paddling their double Fenn in only it’s second race! Mick Carroll shaved seventeen seconds of his time last race, for a third. Third 11.35km finisher was Rob McPherson, who improved on his excellent last race time! Gina Weekes again disposed of the longer distance at nearly 10k/hr! Five blokes “whipped in the field” – David Hopkins, Warwick Nichols, Alby Cobb (backing up from a race yesterday), myself and Max Lyons.
We were all glad to again tuck in to the tasty “after race goodies,” this time skilfully selected by James Sealy, upon our return.
Max Lyons, and “fastest” – today – Mick Carroll won the Lucky Prizes.
Let me know if you wish to paddle in a Wednesday “TT”.
