Lovely day – fitting for a Remembrance Day!
Just a couple of weeks after her Class win in the HCC, Heidi Duncan teamed up with Owen Walton, (while his partner, Anne Moore is “out of paddling action”), and “flew under the radar” for a convincing win, in the Fenn double ski. Max Lyons took full advantage of the conditions to get back closer to his old form, though not able to devote as much time to paddling lately, due to his James Craig commitments. Also busy lately, Clarence Hines paid us a surprise visit and showed some of his “old form!” – improving three and a half minutes since his last race. Ray Weekes was also close to his best form in K1. Despite the rare presence of an inconsiderate Jet Ski rider, Warwick Nichols was able to pare almost a minute off his time last race – his second in an old Cleaver K1! Gina Weekes was testing a Carbonology Ski, and was able to reduce her time by nearly half a minute from last week. David Hopkins had his fastest time for a few months. Newy Paddlers’ Visitor, Ian Davey hasn’t lost any of his speed in 21 months, getting within 43 seconds of his time on that occasion. I was satisfied with an average performance. Other 2018 HCC entrants paddling today, Marg and Rob Cook, were within 35 seconds of their time last week.
We were able to begin our Presentation by observing a minute’s silence for Remembrance Day – 100 Years on. After the usual Race Certificates, Heidi was also presented with her “Handicapper’s Trophy for Fastest Female Member” in the recent 30km Race. We concluded with a “Wellness Pack” presented to Anne Moore, on behalf of the Members. Members also collected their new “Uniforms” – Cap, Polo and paddling shirts, courtesy of Central Coast Council. Thank you Diana and Marg for your year of Timekeeping for us! And thank you James for your help with the tea and coffee water supply, etc!
