Results from InterClub Perpetual Trophy Race Day, 1st July 2018

Thank you to everyone who helped make today so enjoyable!

Especially the “Office Staff” – Diana and Margaret for the vital Starting and Timekeeping – Anne for organising the Craft numbers, and Trudy for looking after the hot water. And the blokes helped too!

Clubs attending, were Avoca Kayak Club, Brisbane Water Paddlers, Central Coast Paddlers and Hunter Valley Paddlesports Club.

Congratulations to Brisbane Water Paddlers who won the Trophy for the second time today.

Hunter Valley held the Trophy last year.

I have included comments from some Competitors – thank you all:

Regards,

Nick.

From Scott Cunningham – Avoca Kayak Club:

“Thanks to Central Coast Paddlers for having us at their inter club competition today and well done to all clubs competing especially BWP for taking out the trophy! Our group of young paddlers all enjoyed mixing it up with some more experienced racers….looking forward to coming back next year and taking out the trophy!”

From Ella Beere, one of our U/21 female Australian representatives:
“It was a really fun morning and a great opportunity to get some good training in. The people were lovely and we would love to race at Wyong again”.

And a quote from Holly Ayres, one of our up and coming U/16 female paddlers:
“ It was a really fun day, everything was well organised and ran super smooth, all the paddlers from other clubs were really nice and welcoming and it was a great way to experience a new type of racing”

From Andrew Wilkinson, Brisbane Water Paddlers:

“It was encouraging to see such a healthy turnout in support of the running of todays 2018 Central Coast Interclub Championships.

With many Divisions on offer, and two distances to choose from, there were opportunities for all paddlers. What started as a chilly morning turned out to be perfect paddling conditions with brilliant sunshine, little to no wind, only a slight current and a relaxed atmosphere both on and off the water. Divisions were well  spaced out to ensure no merging and fair running. It was great to see Avoca Kayak Club in attendance with many promising under 23s on the water. I personally love seeing the young up and coming talent giving us all a nudge on the water. Whilst we recognise AKC’s focus is primarily on sprint kayaking, it was great to see them support this format.

Congratulations to Brisbane Waters on winning the overall Trophy. A big thanks on behalf of all paddlers, to Central Coast Paddlers for hosting today, and in particular to their many members for volunteering their time to ensure a great day for all. These events do not just happen, so thank you all!

We all look forward to a continued healthy rivalry amongst our clubs when we meet again next at Manly Warringah Kayak Club for the next marathon race at Narrabeen.”

From Paul Stone, Central Coast Paddlers:

“With a couple of young AKC speedsters on a K2 and the “in-form” Andrew Wilkinson along side me for the start in D1, I anticipated a bit of heat of the start.
Unfortunately for me the pace was a little too quick over the first kilometre and from that point on it was all about enjoying  glassy conditions on the river.”
