As in previous races, there was a good turnout with just under 200 paddlers registered for the days racing. Despite a forecast of rain through the morning, the early drizzle had cleared away by the time most paddlers arrived at Macquarie Park. Windsor Canoe Club organised a great event with the usual coffee wagon and barbecue and they must have been relieved to have the weather clear to a sunny day by end of racing. As always, special thanks to the volunteers who make these days a successful event for the paddlers.
Paddling conditions were good although there was some tidal flow downstream making the upstream paddle of the 5km lap tough at times. The 1 minute gap between division starts caught a lot of paddlers out with many starting off the back off their group.
8 CCCC paddlers made the trip to Windsor for Race 5:
– In Div 3, Paul Carter and Cam finished 5th and 6th respectively
– In Div 6, Marni finished 6th out of a large field of 21 paddlers
– In Div 8, Ross and Steve finished 3rd
– In Div 9, Jenny and Jack finished in 8th place
– In Div 10, after a 3 week layoff for her wedding to Cam, Lyn finished 17th out of another large field.
Many of the paddlers from BWP, Newy Paddlers and HVPC who regularly paddle at CCCC club days also made the trip to Windsor with special mention to Gina who finished 1st in Div 10, Ray Baxter who finished 1st in Div 8, Sue Smith who finished 2nd in Div 11 and Warwick Nicholls paddling with Bernie Craggs finished 3rd in Div 2.
