CCCC Summer Race 7, 28th May 2017

Quite a nice day – except for about five minutes, when it was almost winter!

Very little wind, but the gentle, deceptive, flow out made it hard for PBs today – congratulations Mark and Cheryl Bretag!

Visitor, Scott Cunningham, is well on the “comeback trail” with improvement on his previous race – congratulations for showing us the “way home!”

Max Lyons had his best “unassisted time” for a couple of years, to be the first Member to cross the line!

2nd Member, Jim Buckland, is also on the “comeback trail,” with Clive Adams right on his tail!

Visiting Avoca Kayak Club Member, Bailey Johns, impressed with a good time on a possibly longer course than he is used to. He finished in front of a group of eight craft who enjoyed exciting racing in the last kilometre!

Steve Hill and Ross Fraser, Anne Moore, David Hopkins, Shannon Hile, Jack and Jenny Ward, Alby Cobb and myself, finished less than a minute apart.

“Newy Paddlers” Visitors, Mark and Cheryl Bretag, went well for the first nine kilometres, before tiring a little – I know, because I “had to” wash ride them, which was not easy for for most of the way – thanks Mark and Cheryl!

Jack and Jenny Ward provided a “fast and furious” wash ride for a short distance to the finish – thanks also Jack and Jenny!

Cam Tunbridge lost his “sparing partner” – Mick Carroll – who hit something and capsized early – extremely unusual for Mick! But, they will both be “back” next race!

“Keeping an eye” on Cam’s performance, was his new Bride, Lyn, who was also slowed by the conditions.

Heidi Duncan was disappointed by her showing – but, I’m sure it is only temporary!

Experienced HCC Paddler, in both kayak and SUP – Peter Hopkins – has set himself a new challenge – a Fenn V10 ski! I reckon it won’t be long, and we will see him nearer the top of the Results page!

Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their Birthday wishes? (last week – my excuse for wash riding today!)

Also, PaddleNSW (Peter Tate) for nominating me, and CCCC for supporting me, to attend the 2017 NSW Community Sports Awards, for an Award, in the Stranger’s Room, Parliament House.

Finally, please take note that we have moved our Winter Race 4 to the 3rd September, so that Members can go to Port Macquarie for the “3 Rivers 3 Distances” race on the 20th August.

“Thank you,” to the “behind the scenes” Office Staff – Anne, Diana and Margaret!

Full results for the days racing can be found here!

Cheers,

Nick.

ps. Steve and I are meeting with Council next week to discuss much needed improvements at Lions Park.
