26-03-29 PNSW marathon series race #4

Four enthusiastic paddlers from CCP travelled to Lane Cove last Sunday for race #4 of the 2026 Paddle NSW Marathon Series.

As usual, Lane Cove River Kayakers hosted a fabulous event with club volunteers available to help paddlers with everything from unloading boats from cars, carrying them to/from the river, and entering/exiting the water via the Club’s pontoon. There were wash stations set up and even platters of fresh fruit on offer for paddlers as they waited to wash their boats!

The conditions were pretty good for racing, sunshine, a light breeze, and a strong outgoing tide with a bit of floating debris.

Marnie Fitzpatrick won Division 11, completing the 10km course in a time of 57:53.50. Russell Brown, paddling in his K2 with Meredith Scott (Newy Paddlers) finished in 2nd place (58:36.1). Also competing in the tight field that was Division 11, Sue Johnson finished in 6th place (1:01:53.2).

Long term CCP legend Allan Newhouse won the Men’s ICF class in Division 12 (1:13:11.3), taking out 6th place overall.

The Marathon Series races are always a great day out with lots of friendly camaraderie between paddlers. It would be wonderful to see a few more CCP members participate in future races.
