Results from Summer Series Race 1, 3rd February 2019

It was easy to lose sight of the paddler in front, due to the heavy mist on Wyong River this morning, which did not lift until the latter part of the race.
We were visited by ex Olympian, and Hunter Valley Paddlesports Club Member, Shane “Tagg” who treated us to a fine display of paddling, to overtake the entire field, and record a PB for the distance.
Gina Weekes ably piloted her “new” Alchemist K1 to also record a PB.
Clive Adams set a “2 yr PB” in his third place.
A “much improved” Rob McPherson, paddling his “new” SLR, did his best time ever on the River.
Heidi Duncan paddled in “new” Zest for her second best time.
Cam Mehmet “bucked the trend” to set a PB in his regular Horizon Flyer.
Anne Moore showed her fighting spirit, in paddling her K1 to seventh place.
Warwick Nicholls, after trying many different craft, was able to “crack the hour”, in a “yellow K1”, with a difficult name.
Hunter Valley Paddlesports Club President, Greg Hillier, made a surprise visit and also impressed.
Marg Cook set the handicapper a difficult task, paddling a K1 after an absence from “single seat craft” for some years!
Mick Carroll had an interesting paddle in his “new” craft – a K2 converted to a single, when he unknowingly snared a fishing line, complete with knots and all!
Rob Cook advised the Handicapper that he would not be at his best, as he had not paddled lately, and did not surprise!
Another welcome visitor after many years, was a former President of our Club, Mark Porter, who showed he still has plenty of talent.
Ray Weekes admitted that he really should not have paddled, as he was not feeling well.
Possibly the most surprising result of the day, was James Sealy’s PB, given that he was suffering a virus during the week!

Until next race!

Nick.
