CCP Ultra Marathon 30-08-2020
Hi Members and Friends,
We are grateful to be granted permission to hold our 46th “30km” Marathon, the first while observing Covid 19 conditions.
Conditions were perfect for Competitors, Workers and Spectators.
Despite restrictions allowing only residents of Central Coast and Lake Macquarie to enter, thirteen Paddlers completed the Marathon, and five the half distance.
I would like to thank our Timekeepers, Diana and Margaret, for their dedication, and “a job well done!”
Also, the Lakes Surf Club Members, led by Sean Leister, who manned the four Safety Craft, and Tuggerah Lakes Marine Rescue who supplied two Safety Craft.
There were two powered pleasure craft, who responded favourably to the request by SLSC, to “slow down,” and caused no significant disruption to the contestants.
There was one capsize however, by the K2 crew, for “no apparent reason,” at the top turn, after successfully rounding the bottom turn, at the same time as a boat wash! A pretty courageous effort to complete the course after a dunking in the cold water!
Let’s hope next year’s Marathon can be held under normal conditions, but it will require self discipline and observance of simple “rules!”
Thank you to all who contributed to a successful day!
ps. some pics from the finish, plus a non-competitor, for the girls!
