CCCC Summer Race 6, 7th May 2017

We were greeted by lovely sunshine at Lions Park, and quite a few recreational paddlers – some of whom went up to the weir, then down to the Lake, and back!
Hours of trudging ’round and ’round on the windlass yesterday, aboard the sailing ship – James Craig, (hoisting a new t’gallant spar), must have invigorated Max Lyons, such that he improved his “unassisted” time by two minutes, to take the number 1 spot today! Good effort!
SLSC visitor, Scott Cunningham improved his speed by half a kilometre an hour on his last paddle with us – a 7.5km Time Trial in early March. Sign of better times to come? Well done, Scott!
After a bit of an enforced “lay-up,” David Hopkins returned to the podium for the Members’ second place! Good to see you returning to “form,” David!
Fastest Time today, was achieved by Warwick Nichols and HVPC Member, Matt Miles, in a K2, trimming 20 seconds off Mick Carroll and Jack Ward’s time in the Double Dragon.
Clive Adams, Shannon Hile, Gina Weekes, Ray Weekes and Heidi Duncan all recorded good times. Alby Cobb, and Clarence Hines, are getting back into form, so expect improvement from them!
We were visited by two well-known “sprinters” from Avoca Kayak Club – Paul, and son Sam, Hutchinson. They also, are returning from a “spell.”
Long-time Member, John Wood, had a paddle with us, before his “winter migration” up north!
Vice President Dave McPherson officiated today, in the absence of Mr.President, who is on a business trip abroad. I hope to put his pics from today, on the Club’s facebook page later.
Thank you Timekeepers, Diana and Margaret! And all who helped with the “chores!”
And thank you Gina, for the choccy cake!
Results are here!
Regards,
Nick.
