2022-06-05 CCP Summer Series Race 9

Hi Members and Friends,

A cool day at Lions Park, but with no rain!
Fairly still, with reports of wind at Tacoma.
It was a “tough day,” with a couple of examples of how cold conditions can sap your energy – thankfully the River is a “protected” and safe paddling environment.
It was nice to see a couple of familiar faces from HVPC, along with a couple of new ones. (see pics).
President Nathan led the long course contestants home, followed by Russell and Marni, who confessed to having wash rode him from the turn.
Everyone showed considerable determination!
Also good to see Marg and Rob again, in their SLR2, which brings back so many memories, for me!
The Lucky Prizes were won by Marni and Russell.
A big “Thank You” to Margaret for being Starter and Timekeeper!
Thanks also to Rob for “technical assistance!”

We intend to hold our Annual General Meeting, after Winter Race 2, at Lions Park, on Sunday 31st July 2022 – weather and other circumstances permitting!

Following consultation, and favourable feedback, we intend to conduct the postponed 2021 30km Race in conjunction with Winter Race 3, 21st August 2022, from Lions Park. Due to the number of trees having fallen in during the last big flood, (above Hope Street Wharf), we will conduct the Race over three, ten kilometre laps.
If a Visitor has the fastest time, in a single craft, a trophy will be awarded.
(The Perpetual Van Stappen Trophy is endorsed with the fastest Member’s name – paddling a “single” craft.)

Regards,
Nick.
